Energy Centre Derwenthorpe
Derwenthorpe | Joseph Rowntree Housing Trust | Completed
The Energy Centre at Derwenthorpe has an unusual programme combining community use with sustainable technology. A community room accommodating gatherings of up to fifty people and a smaller public meeting room, are housed in a building also incorporating a 155m2 plant room containing two wood-fired biomass boilers, that provide heating and hot water for the entire development. Known locally as the Super Sustainable Centre (SSC) the building plays an important role in the education of local schools and the local community about sustainability, alternative energy sources and carbon reduction.
Studio Partington encourage the involvement of communities and residents in the sustainability strategy and designed energy solutions of housing schemes at all scales. This helps to ensure that residents will get the most from their new home, and will find our energy solutions are practical, cost-effective and simple to operate.
