Studio Partington delivered the conversion and refurbishment of the Mayford Day Centre in Camden, into a high-quality home suitable for adults with various physical and learning disabilities. The accommodation strives to achieve a domesticated environment, which is far removed from feeling institutional, so that residents can feel at home.

To create a sustainable, comfortable and efficient building ‘passive’ energy efficiency measures have been implemented to reduce the demand for energy, with intentions to improve the thermal performance of the existing building.

Through consultations, with the families of the residents, Studio Partington developed a bespoke brief and design that caters to the specific needs and requirements of the residents and their families. An attention to detail has been paid to the communal living, kitchen and dining spaces to create bespoke moments for the residents, carers and visitors to engage with, whilst creating a truly unique and special home.

Each resident has access to their own private garden, as well as two generous communal gardens. These external spaces will support outdoor physical activity, access to fresh air, a space for occupational therapy and contact with the natural environment.
