RIBA Mentoring Site Tour at Golden Lane Estate, City of London

For the second session of Studio Partington's RIBA Future Architects mentoring Joanna, Suzanne and Alice met four University of East London students on site at Golden Lane Estate in the City of London for an informative tour. We learned about the history of the estate's design and its relationship to the Barbican Estate and the various blocks and different experimental window and facade designs and materials used. We visited Golden Lane Community Centre (refurbished by Studio Partington in 2018) to see this busy building in full use and visited the Crescent House pilot project apartment where different approaches to window refurbishment are being tested. Students were given an insight into the intricacies of a complex refurbishment project with multiple listed buildings, many stakeholders and varied residents with differing needs.
